About Verge (XVG)

Overview

Verge (XVG) is a cryptocurrency that initially started out as a fork of Dogecoin. Now focused heavily on privacy and anonymity with transactions being utterly untraceable due to privacy functions such as IP masking. In 2016, Dogecoin Dark was rebranded to become what we now know of as Verge, after the creator of Dogecoin, Jackson Palmer left. The Verge team has concentrated efforts in a number of critical areas, including transaction speed and availability, transaction fees, adoption and their Wrath protocol, which enables users to send and receive payments privately across the blockchain by using stealth addressing services. Verge has been designed with everyday use in mind and offers a range of secure wallets across multiple operating systems.

Technology

Verge protects its user's privacy by connecting them to its blockchain via TOR, a software which directs internet traffic through a vast overlay network to conceal a user's location and usage information. Another overlay network currently utilised by Verge is I2P which performs similarly to TOR. Verge also promises ultra-fast transaction speeds compared to other coins by using Simple Payment Verification technology with average transaction confirmation times of ~5 seconds, and a transaction capability of 100 transactions per second.

Future Focus

Verge completed a hard fork on January 23rd, 2018 and has now fully implemented Wraith Protocol 4.0 which allows users to be able to choose between using a public or private distributed ledger when transacting, a first in the history of cryptocurrency. Verge is poised for a period of growth through 2018 and beyond, carefully watching the development of a debit-card-like system with Sunerok, planned for release in December 2018, which will allow users to shop on- and offline using XVG and other cryptocurrencies. Further, Verge intends to release an iOS and Android wallet, as well as an online merchandise store. For more information regarding Verge visit the official webpage or read over their roadmap.

A wallet is essentially a bank account for your cryptocurrency and the wallet address is like your account number. The sender of the cryptocurrency needs a wallet address so they have somewhere they can send it from their wallet, much like a bank transfer. This wallet is giving you access to the blockchain where you can view your balance, send and receive cryptocurrency.

About Bitcoin

Bitcoin (BTC) is a form of digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds. Transactions are stored on a distributed, immutable, online, public ledger known as a blockchain. Bitcoin was the first truly decentralised cryptocurrency which was created by a programmer under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto and was released in 2009. The system is peer-to-peer, verified by network nodes and recorded in a public distributed ledger called the blockchain. Bitcoin can be exchanged for other currencies, products, and services with over 100,000 merchants and vendors accepting bitcoin as payment. Bitcoin can also be held as an investment. There are only a fixed number of Bitcoin will ever be mined (21 million), it’s not controlled by any one government or central bank, and there’s no such thing as quantitative easing or fractional reserve banking. These qualities make Bitcoin excellent as a store of value and a long-term safe-haven asset, similar to gold.

A Bitcoin success story that went viral on social media is Kristoffer Koch from Norway. Koch invested around $27 in Bitcoin in 2009 and then forgot about it for four years. He remembered about his Bitcoin wallet in 2013, which had then grown in value to $886,000.
