How to Buy Cryptocurrencies with a Credit Card?

BitPrime is pleased to offer the opportunity for you to buy cryptocurrency with a credit card or debit card quickly and easily. All you need to do is fill out the required details in the form at the top of this page. If you would like help using this service for the first time, we have created an in-depth, step-by-step guide on how to buy crypto with a credit or debit card at BitPrime.

To provide this payment method, BitPrime has partnered with Simplex, the market leader when it comes to using credit and debit cards for buying cryptocurrency. We chose Simplex because they offer a unique, fraudless payment processing option, with global accessibility, robust security infrastructure and, as a bonus, they were selected as one of the ten most impactful companies in blockchain in 2020!

Why use a credit or debit card to buy bitcoin or any other digital asset?

One of the benefits of buying bitcoin and other virtual currency options using a credit card is that you can pay in a fiat currency that many cryptocurrency exchanges don’t accept. We accept payments in 50 different fiat currencies using this method!

A credit card purchase tends to be much faster than a manual bank transfer as well with these transactions being processed near-instantly in comparison with the potential two or more day wait in the case of some bank transfers. Plus, anyone who has previously used a card payment for any other form of online shopping before is already familiar with the payment process – there’s nothing new to learn.

Using this payment method can help you to take advantage of any changes in the market immediately without you getting FOMO (fear of missing out) waiting for your next payday to arrive.

Credit cards are a modern-day convenience that we are beginning to expect retailers to provide as a payment method. Beyond convenience, they offer the opportunity for one to build a credit history and increase your purchasing power. Additionally, credit card issuers offer a form of protection against fraudulent transactions.

Many of BitPrime’s customers have requested the option to purchase crypto from us using a credit card for these reasons and more. With BitPrime accepting credit cards, you can rest assured and know that you are buying from an established and trusted retailer and avoiding the many scammers lurking on the internet.

We hope that by providing a range of different payment options to suit everyone, we help further crypto adoption globally.

Who can use this Service to Buy Crypto?

Good news! The option to buy crypto with a credit card from BitPrime isn’t geographically limited to New Zealand-based or current BitPrime customers only! We welcome both existing and new customers alike, aged 18 and older, to use this service to make a cryptocurrency purchase.

Currently, this service is available to anyone with a valid ID document (e.g. passport, driver’s licence, national identity card) from a country that isn’t included on the FATF high-risk and monitored jurisdictions watchlist – see further below for full details on this.

ID verification

You must verify your identity with our partner, Simplex, who power this payment option for us. Please note that this verification is in addition to that required by BitPrime for one of our standard retail or OTC accounts.

The prompt for you to verify occurs during the credit card payment checkout process and only takes a minute or two to complete. Please have your ID handy when you opt to use this service. You can refer to our FAQs about Buying Crypto with a Credit Card/Simplex page or our step-by-step guide for more information on completing this step.

Why is this necessary?

It is becoming increasingly difficult to purchase any digital asset without ID verification because governments around the world are introducing and improving legislation and regulation related to the crypto space. I wouldn’t perceive this increased regulation as a bad thing. Rather, regulations of this sort help to increase your safety, help prevent the funding of illegal enterprises, and move the whole cryptocurrency industry away from its earlier perception of being a haven for criminals only – just think back to the Silk Road days.

Unfortunately, there still exists a widespread misconception that bitcoin and other virtual assets are or should be, fully anonymous, but this isn’t necessarily true. Instead, they are more correctly considered pseudonymous.

While you can’t be personally identified just by someone seeing your wallet address alone, at some point, your wallet address is likely tied to your identity for legal reasons.

To learn more about how Simplex securely stores your personal information, please read their Privacy Policy.

Who can’t use this service?

The decision to exclude certain jurisdictions from using this service isn’t something taken lightly by either BitPrime or our partner, Simplex.

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is the global watchdog that sets international standards aimed to prevent certain illegal activities such as organised crime, terrorism and corruption and their associated harm on society.

FATF has identified the following countries to have significant strategic AML/CFT deficiencies for countering money laundering, the financing of terrorist operations and proliferation financing. As such, the provision of this service (buying crypto with a credit card via our site) is not available to residents of the following jurisdictions. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause; this is non-negotiable. This list is also subject to change as per FATF updates.

What are the Fees for Buying Crypto with a Debit Card or Credit Card?

As is with our option to pay for cryptocurrencies with internet banking methods (Account2Account, manual bank transfer, or POLi), when you choose to buy crypto using your credit card with BitPrime, the price that you see is inclusive of all fees. The margin that we charge covers all of our costs so that what you see is what you pay; there are no hidden fees. We always display the exact fiat price you pay and the exact crypto amount you receive. We don’t believe in misleading our customers by showing an “approximate amount” of the coin you’ll receive, unlike some other retail or crypto exchange operators.

Currently, the transaction fee for using a credit card or debit card is 5% For a full run-down on BitPrime’s margin, please visit our Fees and Pricing page.

Important note: Please ensure you check with your credit card issuer as to whether a purchase of this sort is considered as a product or a cash advance (aka cash equivalent transaction). If they consider it to be a cash advance then your bank will likely charge you the applicable fee for this. This would not affect debit card purchases. Cash advance fees are not charged or collected by BitPrime or Simplex.

What Risks are Involved when Buying Crypto with a Credit Card?

As always, don’t forget that cryptocurrencies are classed as a high-risk investment due to their constantly fluctuating values. You need to be comfortable with this fact and understand that any form of “investment” presents various pros and cons.

When buying crypto with a credit card, always be mindful that you aren’t spending more money than you can afford to, and remember that it is likely you will have to pay interest on this purchase to your card issuer.

It is also worth checking your card provider’s terms and conditions to ensure that you aren’t violating them by purchasing crypto, as well as ensuring the legality of purchasing digital assets in your relevant country. As an example, some countries such as Egypt have prohibited the purchase of bitcoin under Islamic law.

It is your responsibility to make certain you aren’t breaking any laws set by your jurisdiction or violating any terms set by your bank.

When purchasing cryptocurrencies by credit card, it’s essential that you assess the company you are buying from to check they are a trusted and safe option. At BitPrime, we follow very strict guidelines and regulations set by the relevant authorities in New Zealand. We highly encourage you to perform your due diligence and review our About Us page, our legal pages, various review platforms, and social media channels to determine if you are happy with our reputation.
