Introducing the New Ripple (XRP) Logo!

Why Was a New Logo Needed?

The quest for a symbol/logo to distinguish Ripple, the company, from XRP, the currency, began as a grassroots movement. Alexavier Guzman, a software engineer, writer for Medium, and self-proclaimed crypto enthusiast, wanted to contribute to the XRP community in a way that hadn’t been done before. He wanted to give XRP its own identity.

The Process to Find a New Logo

Guzman started an open-source project called XRP Symbol as he believed XRP should be treated as a currency by having a currency symbol.

Both the Ripple community and the Ripple company believed this to be a great idea. Thus, the XRP Symbol project received tons of support, and submissions for potential logos came flooding in.

“…using Ripple’s name or logomark to represent the full breadth and depth of the XRP ecosystem doesn’t make sense. The community also highlighted that this usage is incorrect, as both Ripple and its logomark only represent our private, for-profit company and are protected elements of our brand… we agree that the time has never been better for XRP to get its own visual identity — one that captures the digital asset’s utility, speed and independence.” Team Ripple.

And the Winner is...

Based on community voting, the winning design was chosen. Submitted by Claire Arthurs Kart, the new symbol is very fitting. The “x” symbol signifies XRP’s role in cross-border transactions. Mathematically, it symbolises a multiplier effect to represent the community behind the currency. Also, the curved shape is “suggestive of the human form”. Finally, the top half represents sending coins, and the bottom half receiving coins.

In summary, it is a big step forward for Ripple and XRP to have unique logos distinguishing one from the other. Now, XRP’s assets, namely utility, speed, and independence are expressed in a way that adds credibility to the coin. The new symbol will be submitted to the Unicode Consortium to have it officially recognised as a Unicode Standard character.

    • Hi Sharon,
There were so many submissions of different designs for the new XRP logo. It’s always interesting to see what the majority of the community prefer with something like this. I think one benefit of the chosen design is that it’s very easy to draw! Just like the $ symbol is 🙂
