Exodus is a multi-asset desktop-based wallet app available on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and currently supporting over 100 tokens. It is widely considered one of the most user-friendly wallets and comes packed full of useful features. Exodus was designed with the end user in mind and is perfect for those who have never used an exchange before. Overall, Exodus is one of the most highly recommended software wallets.
With Exodus, the security of your digital assets is a top priority. Your data remains private as the wallet locally generates and encrypts your private keys. This means that your private keys are stored on your own computer as opposed to an online server. Additionally, your personal information remains private as you don’t need to set up an account to use Exodus.
You control your assets through a set of private keys generated from when you first opened your Exodus wallet.
Exodus Wallet Backup
The Exodus backup stores encrypted metadata of your transaction data to be used to restore your wallet should you lose access for any reason. It is imperative that you set up your password and 12-word recovery phrase after your first deposit as this is what you use to restore your wallet and balances. For enhanced security, users can elect to back up their cryptocurrency private keys individually.
With passwords, it is highly recommended that you use a long string of letters (upper and lowercase) and numbers that ARE NOT used for any other login. A password manager such as Dashlane or Keeper is a handy way to keep track of such complex passwords. Please note that if you forget or lose your password there is no way to recover or reset it!
With your 12-word recovery phrase, write the words down on paper in the order you are given them and store this in a secure location. It could be a good idea to make two copies of this and keep them in different locations in case one is damaged or lost. Once again, this CAN NOT be recovered or rest for you.
As well as having good security, Exodus incorporates a beautiful, customisable user interface that makes your cryptocurrency portfolio look visually incredible. You can choose between various themes and backgrounds to personalise your experience.
Exodus gives blockchain asset investors a platform to secure, exchange and manage wealth inside one beautiful application.
Technical support for Exodus is brilliant with the official customer support team able to be contacted 24/7 via their support site, Twitter, Slack, email, and Facebook. The development team release updates approximately every two weeks, where they promptly address any bugs, add newly supported assets, and perform design tweaks and enhancements.
Is Exodus Open Source?
While many of the functional aspects of Exodus are open source and available on Github, the app is NOT in fact, 100% open source. It is the Exodus co-founder, JP Richardson’s, goal for the app to be open source one day but, in the meantime, the company is committed to developing the platform to have one of the best user experiences in the crypto wallet space.
The Team Behind Exodus
Exodus was co-founded by Daniel Castagnoli and JP Richardson in 2016. Castagnoli is the Chief Creative Officer and is responsible for the general design of the wallet. Richardson, the Chief Technical Officer, is the coding magician behind the software.
